January 2026 Appeal

A century ago, the Maryknoll Sisters responded with courage and trust to God’s call. The Sisters planted a seed of faith, knowledge, and service in the Philippines that would grow into what we now proudly call Miriam College. From its earliest days, this ministry of education formed generations of women grounded in Gospel values, committed to love of God and love of neighbor, and prepared to respond to the signs of the times with compassion and integrity.

What began in 1926 as a teacher-training program for women flourished into an institution rooted in truth, justice, peace, and care for creation. Over the years, Miriam College adapted and grew, yet remained faithful to its mission: educating the whole person and empowering young women to become agents of hope and transformation in the world.

Today, that same Maryknoll spirit continues to live on far beyond the classroom. Through the devoted ministries of Sister Nena Heramil in Panama, Sister Sue Glass in Hong Kong, and Sister Miriam Perlewitz in Bangladesh, the Sisters remain steadfast in their commitment to education as a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and new life. Whether serving children living in extreme poverty, guiding students through spiritual formation, or sustaining life-changing educational centers, the Sisters offer not only learning, but compassion, purpose, and hope.
