After her religious profession of vows, she studied nursing at Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Boston, MA. receiving an R.N. She was assigned to Queen of the World Hospital in Kansas City, MO run by the Maryknoll Sisters in 1957 where she was nursing supervisor.
In 1958 she went to Hong Kong and studied Cantonese. She worked as Operating Room and ward Supervisor in Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital in Wong Tai Sin, Hong Kong.
Sister Helen then returned to the United States where she earned a B.S. in nursing from Villanova University in Villanova, PA in 1969, and an M.A. in nursing administration from Columbia University in New York City in 1970.
She then returned to Hong Kong where she served as Director of Nursing Service from 1970 until 1984. During her early years in this position, she also became certified in Hospital Administration from the University of Hong Kong.
After giving service to the Congregation at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in NY for 4 years, Sister Helen once more returned to Hong Kong. At this time she became involved in Hospice Care for the dying. She joined the Bradbury Hospice as the Project Coordinator until 1992. She was active with Bradbury Hospice in different capacities, serving on its Board of Directors and its Development Committee.
Sister Helen has also served many other organizations in Hong Kong: the Keswick Foundation, the Maggie Cancer Caring Centre, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hong Kong and Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital. Sister Helen currently resides at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Ossining, NY, where she is a member of its Chi Rho Community.
