Sister Jo Anne Bastien entered Maryknoll at Valley Park, Missouri on February 1, 1953 from St. Paul Parish, St. Cloud, Minnesota.  She received her R.N. in 1952 from St. Catherine College of Nursing in 1952.  Sister Jo Anne was professed on September 8, 1955 and received her foreign assignment to Ceylon (Sri Langka) in 1956 and immediately started language study.  Unfortunately, the Ceylon government refused to issue a visa.

Sister Jo Anne was assigned to Hong kong in 1957 and was engaged in teaching and nursing in the Kwun Tong area until 1963.

Sister Jo Anne returned to the Center and joined the Eastern US  Region based in Chicago Chinatown where she taught at St. Therese’s School from 1968 – 1981.

In October, 1981 Sister Jo Anne became a member of the Center Community and did Congregational Service in the Library from 1981 -1982.  After, Sister Jo Anne became Assistant Director in the Activities Program at the Maryknoll Center where she used her artistic skills to encourage others to also enjoy their talents.


Sister Jo Anne retired in 2000, she spends her time between the Maryknoll Sisters Center’s in California and New York.
