Sister Jo Ann, entered Maryknoll at Valley Park, Missouri on February 1st, 1953 from St. Paul Parish, St. Cloud, Minnesota. She received her R.N. in 1952 from St. Catherine College of Nursing. Sister Jo Ann made her First Profession of Vows on September 8, 1955 and received her foreign assignment to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in 1956 and immediately started language study. Unfortunately, at that time the Ceylon government expelled all foreigners, so she was refused a visa to remain there.
Sister Jo Ann was assigned to Hong Kong in 1957 and was engaged in teaching and nursing in the Kwun Tong area until 1963. Later, She returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center and joined the Eastern US Region based in Chicago Chinatown where she taught at St. Therese’s School from 1968 – 1981.
In 1981 Sister Jo Ann returned to the Center and gave Congregational Service in the Library. After that, she became Assistant Director in the Activities Program at the Maryknoll Nursing Home. In 2000, Sister Jo Ann retired to the Maryknoll Sisters Residence in Monrovia, CA. Three years later Sister Jo was assigned to the Chi Rho Community at Maryknoll Center. In 2005 she returned to Monrovia for five years. In 2010, Sister Jo Ann returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center in NY where she currently resides.
