Patricia (Pat) O’Mera was born April 18, 1927 in Seattle, WA to Mrs. Catherine (Scanlon) and I. A. O’Mera. She graduated from Holy Names Academy in Seattle in 1945 and attended Seattle University before entering Maryknoll.
Pat entered Maryknoll at the Center in NY September 6, 1948. She professed First Vows March 7, 1951 at the Center and Final Vows March 7 in Chile. Sister Pat acquired her Bachelor of Education from Rogers College in 1951 and was assigned one year later to mission in Chile. In her first years there, in Curepto, Sister taught in primary school and did pastoral work.
In 1968, Sister Pat was elected as a delegate for the Maryknoll Sisters’ General Assembly, where she was a member of the implementation team responsible for carrying out decisions and changes. It was her responsibility to communicate pertinent information to the whole congregation.
She was assigned to the Western U.S. Region in 1971. There she served in numerous capacities. In 1979, Sister Pat earned a Master of Arts-Education from San Diego State University. For seven years she was an English teacher for Spanish-speaking adults.
Since her retirement in 2006, Sister Pat has been a participating member of the Maryknoll Community in NY.
