Sister Maria Rosario Daley, M.M.

Sister Maria Rosario has been a Maryknoll Sister for 72 years!
Born in Albany, NY, Sister Maria Rosario (then Regina Anne Daley) graduated from Holy Names Academy, Albany, NY, in 1941, College of St. Rose, Albany, NY, with a B.A. in Latin and mathematics, in 1945. Soon after, on September 6, 1945, she entered Maryknoll from Blessed Sacrament Parish, Albany, NY.
Three years later, in 1948, she was assigned to Hawaii, where still remains today and has served, all together, for nearly 69 years! Her first assignment was teachings Grades 7, 8 and 11 in Punahou on Oahu from 1948-1957. She then taught 11th Grade in Kaneohe, also on Oahu, from 1957-1963.
She was then sent to Maui, where she again taught 11th Grade in Wailuku from 1963-1965. Following a brief period back in Punahou, she enrolled at Boston College in Massachusetts, where she earned an M.A. in Mathematics in 1967.
She then joined the faculty at Mary Rogers College, Maryknoll, NY, where she taught mathematics and served in the Admissions Office. In 1973, she switched roles, becoming student rather than instructor, this time at Maryknoll Seminary, where she earned an M.A. in theology in 1974.
Sister Maria Rosario then served as the congregation’s Lay Employee Personnel Coordinator and handled immigration matters for non-US Maryknoll Sisters from 1974-1985.
She then returned to her beloved Hawaii, where she worked for the Diocese of Honolulu from 1985-1995, then worked in the Guidance Department at Maryknoll High School from 1996-2006, as well as in 2014.
Sister Maria Rosario also served as sacristan and Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church, Manoa-Punahou Catholic Community, from 1997-2003. She continues to make her home in Honolulu.
