Sister Maura Flaherty

Current Ministry Location: Maryknoll Sisters Center-Maryknoll, NY 

Sister Maura entered Maryknoll on September 2nd, 1960 from St. Charles Parish, Woburn, Massachusetts.

Her first mission assignment was to Guatemala in 1968.  Sister Maura taught at Colegio Monte Maria in Guatemala from 1968 – 1981.

She returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center in NY for Renewal in 1981 and did Congregational Service in the Housekeeping Department from 1982 – 1985.  This was followed by a year’s Refugee Work in Concordia, Kansas from 1985 – 1986.

After Renewal in 1986, Sister Maura returned to Mezquital, Guatemala until 1988.  She Returned again to the Center in NY in 1988 and began Congregational Service in the Direct Mail Office until 1992.

She returned to Mezquital where she served as Catechist and ministered to children until 1998.

In 1998 Sister Maura returned again to the Maryknoll Sisters Center, served in the Immigration Office and as a Secretary in the Rogers Community office until 2004.

Sister Maura was assigned to El Salvador in 2004 and did Catechetical work, visited women with AIDS in prison and worked with children.

In 2007, Sister Maura returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center and was a volunteer driver in the Out-Patient-Clinic now called the Wellness Center until 2015.  In her spare time she gardened in the Center’s Lourdes Grotto, where she kept beautiful flowers and plants growing nearly all year round.  Sister Maura is now retired at our Maryknoll Sisters Center in Maryknoll, NY.
