Sister Maura Flaherty, M.M.

Sister Maura Flaherty entered Maryknoll on September 2, 1960 from the Parish of St. Charles Church, Woburn, Massachusetts.

Her first mission assignment was to Guatemala in 1968.  Sister Maura taught at Colegio Monte Maria in Guatemala from 1968 – 1981.

Sister Maura returned to the Center for Renewal in 1981 and did Congregational Service in the Housekeeping Deptartment from 1982 – 1985.  This was followed by a year’s Refugee Work at Concordia, Kansas from 1985 – 1986.

After Renewal in 1986, Sister Maura returned to Mezquital, Guatemala until 1988.  She did Congregational Service in the Direct Mail Office until 1992.  She returned to Mezquital and did Catechetical Work and ministry with children until 1998.

From 1998 to 2004, Sister Maura did service in the Immigration Office and as a Secretary in Rogers Community at the Maryknoll Sisters Center.

Sister Maura went to El Salvador in 2004 and did Catechetical Work, visited women with AIDS  in prison and also worked with children.

In 2008, she returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center and presently works as a driver for the Wellness Center.  Sister Maura enjoys gardening in the Grotto, where she keeps beautiful flowers and plants growing all year round.
