Sister Rolande Pendeza Kahindo

Sister Rolande was born in Mysyenene, Congo on January 21st, 1981 to Leonie Kakotwa and Melchisedek Kakwaghe and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC, Zaire, or Belgian Congo.) She comes from a family of seven and is the second born. Her passions include: Gardening, knitting, singing and dancing. She graduated from Secondary School in 2000. She earned an Associate degree from the Religious Formation Company of Mary Our Lady in 2006 and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Tangaza College, a Constituency of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in 2011.

Sister Rolande first heard about the Maryknoll Sisters in 2014 when she was teaching in Dodoma, Tanzania with the Jesuit Fathers.She entered the Congregation on February 1st, 2017 in Tanzania. She pronounced First Vows at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY on August 4th, 2019.

Sister Rolande did her first year of integration and acculturation with the Maryknoll Sisters in Chicago. During her time there, she lived in community and continued to learn about the Maryknoll spirituality while taking classes from CTU (Catholic Theological Union). She then did her Canonical year in St. Louis. In 2020 Sister Rolande received her first mission assignment to East Timor, there she teaches English to secondary school students as well as life skills such as sewing and knitting.
