Giving Tuesday 2020

Our mission work is even more critical with the Coronavirus causing immense suffering due to LOCKDOWNS, LOST WORK & FOOD SHORTAGES!

The coronavirus has taken the lives of 1,000,000 innocent people and impacted 36,000,000 lives across the globe in 214 countries and territories, our Sisters are needed now more than ever providing relief to many in dire situations!

December 1st, 2020 is Giving Tuesday and the Maryknoll Sisters need your help! Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season.

Help Now

Prior to the pandemic, in places such as: Peru, Tanzania, and Panama the communities our Sisters serve lead a simple life, many only making income through selling food they cook or items they craft. The pandemic restrictions have ruined this…it’s now a question of SURVIVAL for most at this time, without work, what food can they eat? That’s why they need our help!

Peru

In Peru, Sister Esperanza Principio, M.M. says it’s now a question of survival during the pandemic for many in the area’s she serves. Without available work, what food can they eat? They have created communal kitchens (similar to a soup kitchen in the U.S.) where they share all of their personal food and goods they have with their communities.

Tanzania

In Tanzania, Sister Mary Vertucci who runs Emusoi Center a school for maasai girls says the pandemic has caused serious problems. The school was shut down for 3 months, food prices skyrocketed, donations decreased, and many families are now in dire financial situations unable to afford the bus fare back to school.

Panama

In Panama, Sister Nena Heramil, M.M. says due to the pandemic hunger is the main need and unemployment is running rampant with little government assistance. She distributes food every 15 days with her parish to 150 families and continues ongoing construction of houses for homeless families.

When you donate today, you can help the Maryknoll Sisters provide aid to those who are struggling to get by right now.

Help Now

Because of your generosity the Maryknoll Sisters are able to help those who need it most around the world and even more so due to the pandemic. We are deeply grateful to have you as our partner in mission, together we are saving lives.
