Kathleen attended St. Augustine’s Grammar School and Mary Immaculate High School in Ossining and studied for a year at Fordham University. She worked with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in NYC and the American Telephone Co. in White Plains before coming up the hill from St. Augustine’s Parish to join Maryknoll in 1959.
Living in Chinatown, NYC, Sister Kathleen worked with Catholic Charities in the Bronx. After receiving her B.A. in Community Service from Mary Rogers College, she was assigned to Japan in 1970. As she studied the Japanese language she learned that the Japanese also wished to learn English from Westerners, a big need in their studies and work. She began with English Conversation classes and then taught English at Sophia University in Tokyo. In two of Tokyo’s business buildings, she met with graduates for further instruction and this became an occasion for spiritual exchange as well as providing a better understanding of each other’s cultures.
On her return to the States, Sister Kathleen earned a Master’s degree as a Psychiatric Social Worker from Fordham University in New York. She became a member of the Eastern U.S. R egion in 1981 and has been a Social Worker in Catholic Charities Family and Children’s Services in Peekskill, NY, a Social Worker for Adoption and Children’s Services for Family Service of Westchester in White Plains, and worked with the mentally ill in Ossining. More recently she has been doing Psychiatric Social Work in Rockland Psychiatric Center in NY.
