Sister Laura Guledew

Current Ministry Location: Panama

Sister Laura  was born in Lagawe, Ifugao, Philippines August 27th, 1966. Before entering Maryknoll she earned a B.S. in Science-Psychology from Adamson University, Manila, Philippines in 1997. She also worked as a pharmacy representative and then as a Guidance Counselor for ten years at the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City. Her religious vocation was inspired by seminarians and Sisters whom she met in those years.
She entered the Maryknoll Sisters on August 11th, 2007 at the Maryknioll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY after completing a live-in experience in various houses of the Maryknoll Sisters in the Philippines. For the last two years Sister Laura was in our Orientation house in Chicago, IL studying part time at the Catholic Theological Union and serving part time in ministries at St. Ailbey Elderly Day Care Center for African Americans; assistant pre-school teacher in a public school; and in a ministry of presence accompanying people at the Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture.

 

After pronouncing her First Vows August 9th, 2009, Sister Laura was assigned to Panama. She first studied the Spanish language and is now living and serving among the people. She later pronounced her Final Vows on August 28th, 2016 in Panama.
