Sister Laura Guledew, M.M.
Current Ministry Location-Panama
Sister Laura was born in Lagawe, Ifugao, Philippines. Like so many people, she has family on two continents. Her mother and four siblings live in the Philippines and another brother and sister live in the U.S.A. Her father is deceased.
Sister Laura received a B.S. in Psychology from Adamson University, Manila. She first worked as a pharmacy representative and then as a Guidance Counselor for ten years at the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City. Her religious vocation was inspired by seminarians and Sisters whom she met in those years and was clinched when a bishop said to her, “I see life in you! When are you going to become a Sister?”
She entered Maryknoll on August 11, 2007 after completing a live-in experience in various houses of the Maryknoll Sisters in the Philippines. For the last two years Sister Laura has been in our Orientation house in Chicago, studying part time at the Catholic Theological Union and doing part time ministries at St. Ailbey Elderly Day Care Center for African Americans; assistant pre-school teacher in a public school; and in a ministry of presence accompanying people at the Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture.
In August of 2009, after making her First Vows, Sister Laura was assigned to Panama that October.
