Sister Shirley King came to Maryknoll from Greensburg, PA in 1965. She was assigned to Bolivia, South America in 1971 and has spent more than twenty-three years serving the poor in Latin America. She worked in leadership development with women’s groups and health care in Bolivia, and made her final vows as a Maryknoll Sister in the jungle town of Riberalta. In Peru, she directed a large rural parish on the shores of Lake Titicaca, where the population is mostly Catholic and live high in the Andes Mountains.
She returned to the U.S. when her mother became critically ill and accompanied her father at home until his death at 104 years of age. Currently Sister Shirley is working at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in the Development Department as photographer and she also visits parishes and schools to explain the Maryknoll Sisters ministries.
