February 2026 Appeal

As 2026 comes into full swing, the Maryknoll Sisters continue our mission as pilgrims of hope in a weary world.

Because of your generous support, hope took root across the world in 2025. And together, we continue to believe what Sister Abby Avelino so beautifully expressed:

“Even in deep pain, there can be light, beauty, and hope.”

Your Gift Makes Hope Possible

Queen Camilla praised a group of Catholic sisters for their work in helping women & girls in poverty-stricken areas and conflict zones around the world. 'I feel so humbled by it,' she

Hope That Frees the Captive

Last October in Rome, Sister Abby and five other Maryknoll Sisters (members of the Talitha Kum international network to combat human trafficking) met with Queen Camilla to speak on behalf of women and children who have survived trafficking. They presented her with a painting depicting survivors’ faces and a bird escaping from a cage, a powerful symbol of freedom and hope. This is the kind of hope your generosity makes possible.

Hope That Educates and Empowers

At the Emusoi Center in Arusha, Tanzania, hope becomes real for young Maasai girls who seek an education. Founded by Sister Mary Vertucci, the Center provides a safe, nurturing environment where girls grow in confidence, independence, and courage. It empowers them to pursue their dreams and shape their futures.

Hope That Heals

In Guatemala, Sister Dee Smith serves those living with HIV/AIDS at Proyecto Vida (Project Life) and St. Mary’s Hospice. Many face stigma, isolation, and the overwhelming cost of care. Here, they are met not with judgment, but with medical, emotional, and spiritual support. They are given reassurance that they are not alone.

In Brazil, Sister Azucena “Ceny” San Pedro brings relief to women suffering chronic physical and trauma-related pain through a Holistic Health Center, offering natural, time-tested remedies to those who cannot afford expensive treatments.

Hope That Builds Community

In Zimbabwe, children and youth find opportunity at the Norton Youth Center, founded by Sister Chiyoung Pak. Beyond tutoring, the Center offers music, art, dance, sports, and HIV/AIDS prevention— creating a space where people can learn, heal, and belong. Sister Chiyoung describes it as “a safe place to share, cry, laugh, and have fun together.”

In Panama, Sister Gerri Brake provides pastoral care at the New Life Foundation, home to seniors who need nursing or assisted living support. Her presence brings companionship, comfort, and dignity to those who might otherwise feel forgotten.

Hope That Creates Opportunity

In East Timor, Sister Rolande Kahindo gathers women into a Creative Knitters Group, teaching sewing, knitting, and crocheting skills. These women create goods to sell in local markets, building independence, income, and pride through their own creativity.

In Hong Kong, Sister Sue Glass mentors teachers and students at the Maryknoll Convent School, helping Christian hope come alive even in challenging times.

In Japan, Sister Kathleen Reiley walks alongside refugees and children with cancer, guiding families toward peace through a blend of Zen practice and the compassion of Christ, even in moments of fear and uncertainty.

Love is God’s greatest gift and hope is one of the most powerful ways we share that love. Please give today and help ensure that even in deep pain, hope continues to rise.
