This October, Sister Kathleen Reiley is returning to her mission in Japan. She’s been volunteering at the Arrupe Refugee Center, since 2020, and ministers to children with cancer and their families at a nearby hospital. Sr. Kathleen acknowledges how it can be difficult to maintain a sense of calm during tense times, which is why she works those who face a great amount of stress, fear, and uncertainty.
Sr. Kathleen teaches the ancient Japanese discipline of zazen: a simple form of meditation from the central practice of Zen Buddhism. This practice helps control feelings of anxiety, depression, and anger. She says, “Contemplation in Action is fundamental to our spirituality as Maryknoll Sisters. The practice of zazen helps us to realize the fact that we are all one, as Jesus prayed… ‘May they all be ONE in us.'” (John 17:21)
Bring Peace To Those In Need
Help Sister Kathleen Reiley and the rest of the Maryknoll Sisters spread God’s message of love and peace! Sr. Kathleen reminds us,
“Most of my ministries in Japan are as a volunteer, so I am so grateful for our benefactors who help make possible my presence with the children with cancer and the refugees, and also guiding others in zazen.”
Together we can bring comfort to terminally ill children. We humbly ask to help support Sister Kathleen and the rest of the Maryknoll Sisters.
