Sister Marilyn Snediker, M.M. Maryknoll Sister for 59 Years, Dies

Maryknoll, NY: Sister Marilyn Snediker died on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY. She was 94 years old and a Maryknoll Sister for 59 years.

On April 23, 1929 Marilyn Snediker was born in the City of Kankakee, IL to Mary (Shrake) Snediker and Oliver R. Snediker.  She had one brother who predeceased her and no sisters.  Her niece and nephew survive her.

Marilyn attended Warsaw High School from 1944 to 1946 in Warsaw, IN.  From 1947-48 she attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.  She earned her R.N. at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, OH in 1951.  She graduated from Mary Rogers College in 1968 with an Associate in Arts Degree.   In 1969, she received a certificate in Midwifery from London, England.

Marilyn entered the Maryknoll Sisters at Valley Park, MO on October 18, 1964 from the St. Joseph Parish, New York, NY.  She pronounced her First Profession of Vows on June 24, 1967 in Maryknoll, NY and her Final Vows on October 18, 1970 in Tanzania.

Sister Marilyn received her first mission assignment to Tarime, Tanzania in 1967, where she was in charge of a small rural dispensary until 1972. She also taught health and preventative medicine to the African staff. In 1972-86, Sister Marilyn was at the Center on Congregational Services where she held various positions and many different jobs. She worked in Health Services as Assistant Director in 1972-1976; in the Treasury Department and the Library in 1976-1979; she was secretary to the Administrator of the Nursing Home in 1980; the Research and Planning Secretary in 1980-1982; and a staff member of Social Concerns until 1986.

In 1987, Sister Marilyn was assigned to El Peten, Guatemala where she worked in a Diocesan Program for the Promotion of Women until 1993.  In 1994 to 1998 she was in San Jose Comunidad in Guatemala City doing Pastoral work with women.

Sister Marilyn returned to the Center, Maryknoll, NY in 1999 for Congregational Services.  She volunteered as an aide in the Information Systems Office and as the clerk in the Out-Patient Care Unit until 2009.

In 2009, Sister Marilyn retired to the Eden Community where she remained until her death.

A Vespers Service will be held for Sister Marilyn on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 4:15 p.m. in the Chapel of the Annunciation at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at the Maryknoll Sisters Center.

Sister Anne Karen Brannick, M.M. Maryknoll Sister for 80 Years, Dies

Maryknoll, NY: Sister Anne Karen Brannick died on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY. She was 101 years old and a Maryknoll Sister for 80 years.

On May 18, 1921 Anne Karen Brannick was born in Rockford, IL to Mary Ellen (Riordan) and Michael Brannick.  She had three brothers who have predeceased her.  She had no sisters.  Her nieces and nephews survive her.

From 1935 to 1939, Anne Karen attended Aquin High School in Freeport, IL.   She then attended the Rosary College in River Forest where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1943. She continued her studies at the University of Hawaii and received her Master’s in Social Work in 1954.

She entered the Maryknoll Sisters in Maryknoll, NY on September 7, 1943 from St. Mary’s Parish in Rockford, IL.  She pronounced her First Profession of Vows on March 7, 1946 in Maryknoll, NY and her Final Vows on March 7, 1947 in Honolulu, HI.

In 1946, she received her first mission assignment to Nuuanu, Punahou, Hawaii where she worked in social services. She became the Superior of the Maryknoll Sisters Community in Punahou in 1960.

Sister returned to Rockford, IL for family ministry from 1964 until 1966. From 1966-68, Sister was assigned to the Western US Region in Monrovia, CA where she was in charge of the Medicare program in the Admissions office in the hospital.

In 1968, Sister returned to the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY.  She held in various positions and many different jobs until 2006. She worked on the Switchboard in 1968-1977; in the Research and Planning Department in 1977-1982; in the Rogers Library in 1983-1987. She became the Rogers Library Administrator which became Rogers Library Administrator and Research Services in 1990-2003.  In 2004 Sister Anne Karen volunteered in the Treasury department and worked for Telephone Services until 2012.

In 2012 she retired to the Eden Community at the Center until her death.

A Vespers Service will be held for Sister Anne Karen on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 4:15 p.m. in the Chapel of the Annunciation at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, Maryknoll, NY.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at the Maryknoll Sisters Center.
