Ossining, N.Y., Sept. 25, 2026 ── Sister Teresa Suk-Ching Leung, M.M., a Maryknoll Sister of 70 years known for her generous spirit, died on Sept. 14, 2026. She was 94.

Sr. Teresa was born in Hong Kong on Oct. 21, 1931, to Rosa Shak Chi Yan and Joseph Leung Wing Tak. She was one of four children and is predeceased by her sister, Mary. She is survived by her brother, Peter, and sister, Margaret. Sr. Teresa attended Maryknoll Convent School, receiving a Hong Kong School Certificate Standard in 1952. Afterwards, she took secretarial courses at the Hong Kong Technical School and worked in a law office while discerning her vocation.

Feeling a call to religious life, Sr. Teresa entered the Maryknoll Sisters on Sept. 2, 1956, at Maryknoll, N.Y. She made First Vows on June 24, 1959, and Final Vows on the same date in 1965 in Hong Kong.

In 1960, Sr. Teresa began mission work in Chai Wan, Hong Kong, offering pastoral care and retreats to refugees. She returned to New York and received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1972. Shortly after, Sr. Teresa began a teaching career at Maryknoll Convent School, teaching elementary and high school students from 1974 until 1987.

Sr. Teresa then worked in the treasury department at the Maryknoll Sisters Center until 1991, when she was assigned to the Central Pacific Region. There, she served with child and family services for two years, before returning to the Center for three more years of service in the treasury department. From 1997 until 2002, Sr. Teresa worked as an administrative assistant at the Center, where she partnered with Sisters and staff to serve its residential care unit.

From 1987 through 2024, Sr. Teresa dedicated herself to serving graduates of Maryknoll Hong Kong as Alumnae Relations Liaison. A mentor and friend, she maintained close relationships with the many women she knew as students over the years, supporting them and their families with love and concern.

From 2018 until her passing, Sr. Teresa enjoyed sharing her talents and generous spirit with the Center community, helping her fellow Sisters and accompanying them in any way she could.

The Maryknoll Sisters would like to thank Sr. Teresa for sharing her gifts of generosity and kindness with our One Earth Community through her decades of service.

A wake and Mass of Resurrection were held for Sr. Teresa on Sept. 18, 2026, in the Annunciation Chapel of the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, N.Y.
